Program Rules and Regulations

Choice Hotels International, Inc. ("Choice") provides these Rules and Regulations for the Choice Privileges® Rewards Program ("Program"). Choice may amend these Rules and Regulations at any time. For Canadian residents, the Program is owned by Choice Hotels Canada, Inc. and administered by Choice.


  • General Program Information

         1. 
    Choice offers program membership to individuals 18 years or older only and not to corporations or other entities. You may establish and maintain only one Member Account.
         
         2.

     








       
     
    After reviewing your completed Member Application, Choice will provide you with a Member Number. When you receive your Member number, Choice will inform you when you are eligible to receive Hotel Benefits and earn points. Choice will not apply Choice Privileges points, or provide you with Hotel Benefits before processing your application and activating your Member Number.  You can earn Airline miles and Amtrak Guest Rewards if you are not a Choice Privileges member.

    You must maintain a U.S. (including U.S. territories), Canada, Europe (including British Virgin Islands, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Barthelemy and Saint Martin), the Middle East, Africa, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, or Australasia (including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Fiji) address to be a member, receive hotel benefits designated below ("Hotel Benefits"), earn and redeem points, and have access to Program online statements.

    Membership is not allowed in the following countries: Belarus, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Liberia, Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Sudan, Syria and Zimbabwe.  Address changes may limit our ability to mail certain items or communications outside the U.S.

    U.S. and Canada Members:

    You earn Choice Privileges points or Airline miles or Amtrak Guest Rewards points for individual travel on the following qualifying rate plans (SRPs). They are: Best Available Rate, Advance Purchase, Corporate, VIP and Net Preferred, Government/Military, Travelers' Discount, AAA/CAA, PSCIEN, Package Rates, Small Organization Savings/Significant Savings, Senior Rate, Sports Rate, CPSA, Preferred Customer Savings Rate, Savings at Work, negotiated rates (N) and select LSRPs.

    International (Europe, the Middle East, Australasia, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America) members:

    In addition to select rates outlined above for the U.S. and Canada, Choice Privileges points can be earned for the following qualifying rate plans internationally: Best Available Rate, Advance Purchase (LEARLI, LADV), Negotiated Rates (N), Standard Corporate, Standard Government / Military, Standard Preferred Corporate, Standard Net Preferred, Automobile Association Rates, and Standard Senior Concessions,   Point eligibility of Package Rates (P) differs from region to region and must be confirmed  locally.  
         
      4.


    You must be a U.S. active duty or reserve military member, retired military, National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard or eligible spouse/dependent with appropriate military identification over the age of 18, to qualify for the Choice Privileges Armed Services Program. Choice Hotels reserves the right to disqualify anyone from the Choice Privileges Armed Services Program, who does not fulfill the membership requirements at any time. (U.S. only)

    Program Communications/Reservations

    As a Choice Privileges member you may receive email newsletters describing special Program news, promotions and benefits.
         
      2.

    As a member, you may make point-eligible reservations through the Program's toll-free express reservation line ("Program Line"), your travel agent, the Program website (choiceprivileges.com) or directly with our hotels.
         
      3.

    You may use the Program Line in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Australasia only.

    Earning Points

         1.  



    You can earn Choice Privileges points at any Comfort Inn®, Comfort Suites®, Quality®, Sleep Inn®, Clarion®, Ascend Hotel Collection®, Cambria Suites®, MainStay Suites®, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel®, Econo Lodge® and Rodeway Inn® location in the U.S., Canada, Europe (excluding Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden), the Middle East, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and Australasia (including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Fiji). You can also earn points through our partner programs.
       
      2. As a member, you are the only person who may earn points for your account.
         
      3. A "stay" is defined as any number of consecutive nights at one hotel regardless of check-ins or check-outs.
         
      4.

    You earn points for up to two rooms per night at the same hotel. Both rooms must be in your name and include your Member Number. You must stay in one of the rooms and the rooms must be paid in full. You only receive any applicable bonus points on one room. Elite members only earn Elite status on one room per stay.
         
      5.


    If your individual hotel bill is billed directly to a company and you are responsible for authorization of settlement at check-out, your stay is eligible for Choice Privileges points when you pay an eligible rate. However, group master-billing arrangements where charges for multiple rooms are placed on one hotel bill and billed to a company or common address or settled at check-out by one individual are not eligible.
         
      6.
    If two, or more, Choice Privileges members share a room, Choice will credit points to the member reserving and staying in the room. Guest may not change the Choice Privileges number on the stay after the first night has been consumed.
         
      7.




    You do not earn Choice Privileges points for rooms discounted more than 20%, complimentary rooms, rooms paid for as part of a convention or meeting, or rooms booked through a travel agent or third party online retailer as part of pre-paid wholesale rates, wholesale packages or senior tours.

    Rooms booked through third party online retailers such as Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, Travelocity.com, Booking.com, Priceline.com, etc., are not eligible for points or Elite night credit.
         
      8.



    You earn 10 points for each whole U.S. dollar that you pay in full in room revenue when paying qualifying rates, excluding taxes, restaurant or other incidental charges at Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites and Ascend Hotel Collection hotels in the U.S., Canada, Europe (excluding Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden), the Middle East, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
         
        8.1. In Australasia (including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji), you earn 10 points for each whole U.S. dollar. Eligible charges include: accommodation, tax, restaurant, bar charges, laundry and phone calls. Points are not earned on conference costs or tours and packages purchased via your room account. Points are also not earned on purchases from retail outlets.
         
      9. 

    You earn 5 points for each whole U.S. dollar that you pay in full in room revenue when paying qualifying rates, excluding taxes, restaurant or other incidental charges at MainStay Suites, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, Econo Lodge and Rodeway Inn locations in the U.S. and Canada.
         
               9.1. In Australasia (including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji), you earn 5 points for each whole
           U.S. dollar. Eligible charges include: accommodation, tax, restaurant, bar charges, laundry and phone calls. Points
           are not earned on conference costs or tours and packages purchased via your room account. Points are also not
           earned on purchases from retail outlets.
         
      10.

    Allow 72 hours after checking out of hotels in the U.S. and Canada for points to post to your account. Allow 20 days after checking out of hotels in Europe, the Middle East, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Australasia for points to post to your account.
         
      11.

    Choice Privileges points expire on December 31, two years after the year in which they were deposited into your account unless forfeited or canceled earlier due to membership inactivity or otherwise in accordance to these rules and regulations.
         

    12.


    You may not earn Choice Privileges points, Airline miles and Amtrak Guest Rewards points for the same stay. You must choose either Choice Privileges points, or Airline miles, or Amtrak Guest Rewards points and notify the hotel of your preference upon check-in.

    Buying Points
     
        
    1.   Points will post within 72 hours of the purchase.
         
      2. A maximum of 10,000 points can be purchased per transaction.
         
      3.
      
    Each account can receive no more than 20,000 purchased points per calendar year (whether you purchase the points for yourself or as a gift).
         
      4. You must be logged into your online account in order to purchase points.
         
      5. This offer is valid for U.S. and Canadian members only.
         
      6 If you are purchasing points for a friend, both your account and your friend's account must be in an Active status at the time of the purchase.
         
      7. All purchases are non-refundable.
         
      8. Prices are in U.S. dollars.
         
      9. All standard Program rules apply.

    Earning Airline Miles

    You must be a member of a participating frequent flyer program and abide by that program's rules and regulations to earn Airline miles.
            
      2.
    You must provide your frequent flyer number at check-in. Guest name must match frequent flyer membership name to earn Airline miles.
         
      3.





    You can earn 250 miles with Aeroplan®, Alaska Airlines® Mileage Plan, the American Airlines AAdvantage® program,
    Aeromexico Club Premier® (400 kilometers), Czech Airlines OK Plus, Spirit Airlines FREE SPIRIT™, United MileagePlus® or US Airways® Dividend Miles®, 500 miles with airberlin topbonus or receive 600 Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® points per stay at any Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, MainStay Suites, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn and Ascend Hotel Collection location in the U.S., Canada, Europe (excluding Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden), the Middle East, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Australasia (including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Fiji).
         
      4.

    You can earn 10 Air New Zealand Airpoints™ Dollars, 600 Qantas Frequent Flyer points or 600 Velocity Frequent Flyer points for every qualifying stay at any Choice hotel in the U.S., Canada, Europe (excluding Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden), the Middle East, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Australasia.
         
      5.



    You can earn 1 Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollar for every 20 Australian dollars or 20 New Zealand dollars charged to the room for qualifying stays in New Zealand or Australia or 10 Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars at any Choice hotel in Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. Eligible charges include: Accommodation, tax, restaurant, bar charges, laundry and phone calls. Air New Zealand Airpoints are not earned on conference costs or tours and packages purchased via your room account. Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars are also not earned on purchases from retail outlets.
         
      6.



    You can earn 3 Qantas Frequent Flyer points for every Australian dollar charged to your room for qualifying stays in Australia or 600 Qantas Frequent Flyer points at any Choice hotel in New Zealand, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. Eligible charges include: Accommodation, tax, restaurant, bar charges, laundry and phone calls. Qantas Frequent Flyer points are not earned on conference costs or tours and packages purchased via your room account. Qantas Frequent Flyer points are also not earned on purchases from retail outlets.
         
      7.



    You can earn 3 Velocity Frequent Flyer points for every Australian dollar or New Zealand dollar charged to the room for qualifying stays in Australia or New Zealand or 600 Velocity Frequent Flyer points at any Choice hotel in Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. Eligible charges include: Accommodation, tax, restaurant, bar charges, laundry and phone calls. Velocity Frequent Flyer points are not earned on conference costs or tours and packages purchased via your room account. Velocity Frequent Flyer points are also not earned on purchases from retail outlets.
         
      8. You can only earn Airline miles in one airline program per qualifying stay.
         
      9. Airline miles can only be earned by one person per room per stay.
         
      10. A "stay" is defined as any number of consecutive nights at one hotel regardless of check-ins or check-outs.
         
      11. You must ensure payment for the room and occupy the room in order to receive Airline miles.
         
      12.

    If your individual hotel bill is billed directly to a company and you are responsible for authorization for settlement at check-out, your stay is eligible for Airline miles. However, group master-billing arrangements where charges for multiple rooms are placed on one hotel bill and billed to a company or common address or settled at check-out by one individual are not eligible.

    U.S. and Canadian members:

    Once Airline miles have been credited to your designated frequent flyer account, they cannot be moved to another participating frequent flyer program or be moved back to your Choice Privileges account.

    Earning Points with Partners

      2. Avis and Budget (all members)
        2.1. Avis and Budget offers valid at airport and neighborhood locations worldwide. Hotel stay is not required to earn points. Members must provide their Choice Privileges membership number at the time of rental. Points may not be earned on free, tour or certain travel industry rates and may only be earned in one frequent traveler program per rental. Please allow 4-6 weeks for points to post to your account.

    2.2. Rental must be reserved through choicehotels.com or the phone number provided at choicehotels.com.  Member must provide the current discount code and the current point earning code at the time of booking to qualify for any discount offered or points offered on rental agreements.
         
      3. Cruise Partners (U.S. residents only)
        3.1. Choice Privileges points are awarded per stateroom to only one passenger per cruise booking.

    3.2. Points are based on new bookings through Choice Privileges Cruise Partners on http://choice.cruiseonly.com.  

    3.3. Points earned are for cruises reserved through Choice Privileges on any of 20 cruise lines.

    3.4. Please allow 6 - 8 weeks after cruising for Choice Privileges points to be posted to your account.  Member must provide Choice Privileges Member Number at the time of booking to qualify for Choice Privileges points.

    3.5.         5.1. Offer applies to new LifeLock members only and does not apply to existing LifeLock members.

    5.2. In consideration of the free 30 day trial period, please allow 8-12 weeks for LifeLock earnings to be posted to your account.

    5.3. Earnings from Lifelock membership will be awarded 8-12 weeks after first paid month of Lifelock membership.
         
      6. Online Mall 
        6.1. Points.com and Collison Latitude, LLC, manage and operate the Choice Privileges Online Mall website enabling members of the Choice Privileges Program to earn points for qualifying purchases made through the Choice Privileges Online Mall website. The Online Mall and awards are made available strictly on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Points.com makes no warranties express or implied that the Online Mall will be uninterrupted or error-free.

      7. Vinesse Wine Clubs (U.S. residents only)
        7.1. Please allow 8-10 weeks for Vinesse Wine Club point earnings to be posted to your account. Offer void where prohibited by law and void to all individuals under the age of 21.

    Elite Membership

        
    1. 



       
    Elite Gold membership is earned after staying 10 point eligible or reward nights per calendar year. Elite Gold members receive a 10% point bonus. Elite Platinum membership is earned after staying 20 point eligible or reward nights per calendar year. Elite Platinum members receive a 25% point bonus. Elite Diamond membership is earned after staying 40 point eligible or reward nights per calendar year. Elite Diamond members receive a 50% point bonus. Bonus points will be awarded beginning with the first stay after Elite Status is earned.
     
     
      2.

    You must qualify for Elite level status each calendar year. The point bonus applies to stays where Choice Privileges points are earned. The bonus does not apply to Airline miles, Amtrak Guest Rewards points, point earned from the Choice Privileges® Visa® card or any other promotion.
         
      3. Elite members only earn Elite status on one room per stay.
         
      4. Elite benefits may vary depending on hotel and location and may not be available in all locations.
         
      5.

    If you are an Elite Gold member you must make your reward night reservation personally through the Program Line or through your online account no more than 50 days prior to your planned arrival for all stays in your country of residence.  Sixty days prior to your planned arrival at all other locations worldwide.
         
      6.
    If you are an Elite Platinum member you must make your free room night reservations personally through the Program Line or through your online account no more than 75 days prior to your planned arrival for all locations worldwide.
         
      7.
    If you are an Elite Diamond member you must make your free room night reservations personally through the Program Line or through your online account no more than 100 days prior to your planned arrival for all locations worldwide.
         
      8.

    Elite Diamond member room upgrades are determined by each hotel at check-in, are subject to availability and only apply to member's personal room. Upgraded room types may include recently renovated rooms, rooms on a higher/lower floor, or rooms with favored views. Hotels are not required to upgrade members' rooms to specialty rooms or suites.

    Free local calls (except directory assistance and toll calls) and incoming faxes are free. (Free local calls are not offered at hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Australasia.)

    Free high-speed Internet and long distance access. (Not available at all locations in Central America, Dominican Republic, Europe, the Middle East and Australasia)
         
      4.

    Choice Privileges Reward Nights (all members)

    You may redeem a free night for as little as 6,000 points. Reward nights worldwide are available from 6,000 to 35,000 points (excluding Australasia where points required are up to 75,000).

    Members who have not yet achieved Elite Status must make their free night reservation personally through the Program Line or through their online account no more than 30 days prior to planned arrival for stays in their country of residence.  Sixty days prior to their planned arrival at all other locations worldwide.
         
      3. Upon check-in, hotels are encouraged to ask guests to show positive ID for all reward night stays.
         
      4.

    If you are an Elite Gold member you must make your reward night reservation personally through the Program Line or through your online account no more than 50 days prior to your planned arrival for all stays in your country of residence.  Sixty days prior to your planned arrival at all other locations worldwide.
         
      5.
    If you are an Elite Platinum member you must make your reward night reservations personally through the Program Line or through your online account no more than 75 days prior to your planned arrival for all locations worldwide.
         
      6.
    If you are an Elite Diamond member you must make your reward night reservations personally through the Program Line or through your online account no more than 100 days prior to your planned arrival for all locations worldwide.
         
      7. Your free room night does not include incidental charges and/or resort fees.
         
      8. The hotel will hold your room reservation until 7:00 am on the day after your scheduled arrival.

    You may cancel your reservations through the Program Line or through your online account and by the date and time specified by your reservation sales representative or online.
         
      10.  If you are unable to use your room and fail to cancel your reservation, or if you do not claim the room by the specified time, Choice will not credit your account with the points that you redeemed for that room.

      12. You may not reserve reward night stays through a travel agent, and free night stays are not commissionable to travel agents.

    Member Record Changes

    You are responsible for advising Choice through the Choice Service Center of any name change. You must provide Choice with any government/state issued photo ID, such as a drivers' license, including your signature and Member Number, plus the date of your request, for name change requests.  The requirements for a name change are either an old and new ID showing old and new name, a marriage or divorce decree showing the old and new name or an official court document showing the old and new name.  One ID only will not suffice and will be rejected.

    You are responsible for advising Choice through your Online Account or the Choice Service Center of any changes in your contact information including address, phone number or email address to ensure shipment of your reward to the accurate address.

    Other Terms and Conditions
     
          1.    
    Choice may add, modify or delete Program terms or conditions with or without notice, and may terminate the Program at any time.
         
      2. You may not transfer your points to anyone or by any means, including through a will or divorce decree.
         
      3. You may not combine your points with points belonging to anyone else, including your spouse.
         
      4.

    You may only maintain one Program Account. If you open more than one Program Account and have more than one Member Number, Choice will credit points to only one account and terminate the other.
         
      5. You may not sell or barter points or redeem points for cash.
         
      6.


    Choice Privileges points in a member's account do not constitute property of the Member. Points have no fixed value, are non-transferable and are not redeemable for cash or any other form of credit. Points have no value until presented by the member for redemption in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
         
      7. Choice may modify the points listed in your Program account based on actual stay information.
         
      8.


    If you have questions about a Program stay, points for a stay, or the online statement, you must contact the Choice Service Center within 60 days of the onlline statement date. You must provide the Choice Service Center with your hotel receipt indicating your paid stay, plus your Member Number, and other appropriate and unaltered documentation. Once received, please allow up to 15 days to process your request.
         
      9. You can review all of your activity on your Choice Privileges Online Statement.
         
      10. You are responsible for understanding the Program rules, tracking your points and maintaining the security of your account.
         
      11. Choice and its travel partners are not responsible for delayed, lost or misdirected mail or other correspondence.
         
      12. If you do not earn points during 3 consecutive months, Choice may remove you from the Program's active mailing list.
         
      13.
    If you have no activity for a period of 18 consecutive months, Choice may remove you from the Program and therefore terminate your account. If Choice removes you from the Program, you will forfeit your points.
         
      14. Choice may terminate the Program at any time without prior notice.
         
      15.
    If Choice terminates the Program, you must redeem your points for Rewards and complete your reward stays within six months after the Program End to avoid forfeiting your points.
         
      16.


    Choice and its partners at their discretion can terminate your membership and/or cancel some or all of your Choice Privileges points, Airline miles, Amtrak Guest Rewards points or other rewards accrued or issued at any time and may take appropriate administrative and legal action if you abuse, violate or defraud the Program, Membership Guide, Membership Brochure, reservations or Hotel Benefits, points or reward redemption, or any federal, state or local law.
         
      17.
    Choice may, in its sole discretion, revoke your membership and points if you do not pay outstanding Choice brand hotel accounts when due.
         
      18. The Program and/or point rewarding or redeeming is void where prohibited by law.
         
      19. The Program will be governed by Maryland law, without regard to Maryland conflicts of laws principles.
         
      20.
    You agree that Choice has the sole discretion to interpret all Program rules and regulations and you hereby agree by your participation in the Program to abide by Choice's interpretations of these rules.

     The administration of member's accounts and the provision of offers, rewards, benefits, products and services within the Choice Privileges program require the collection, processing and use of data as set out in these Privacy Rules and Regulations. When you become a member, Choice and its affiliates and franchisees collect information that you supply, such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, room preference, and billing information. By submitting your personal information and agreeing to become a Choice Privileges member, you consent to Choice and its affiliates using and sharing personal information about you for the purposes of administering your account(s), and for offering and providing rewards, benefits, products, goods, and services to you in connection with the Program. "Affiliates" are companies that (i) are owned or controlled by Choice, including Choice Hotels Canada, Inc., Choice Hotels Licensing B.V., Choice Hotels Franchise GmbH, Choice Hotels France SAS and Choice Hotels de Mexico, or (ii) have entered into master franchise relationships with Choice, such as Cordelle Enterprises Limited (dba Choice Hotels Ireland), and Nordic Choice Hotels. If you do not consent to your data being used and shared in the manner and for the purposes set out above, you will not be able to participate in the Choice Privileges Program or receive information about the rewards, benefits, products, goods, and services we provide in connection with the Program.

    Choice and its affiliates may share personal information with third parties engaged to assist them in providing services to you or to carry out one of the business purposes described above. These service providers are prohibited from using your personal information for any purpose other than to provide this assistance and are required to protect personal information disclosed by Choice.

    If you elect to earn Airline miles, Amtrak Guest Rewards points or other benefits with Program partners or redeem points for Program partner rewards, you authorize Choice and its affiliates to share your personal information with such Program partners to the extent necessary to complete your request.
         
      4.

    To the extent required or permitted by law, Choice and its affiliates may collect, use and disclose your personal information in connection with security related or law enforcement investigations or in the course of cooperating with authorities or complying with legal requirements.
         
      5.
    By becoming a Choice Privileges member, you authorize Choice and its affiliates to contact you via E-mail and postal mail with Program administrative and transactional information.
         
      6.

    Choice and its affiliates may occasionally contact you via E-mail (except for European residents who have not consented) and via postal mail about Program promotions, special offers, discounts, airline miles bonuses, or contests. If you would prefer not to receive these communications, you may instruct Choice to remove your name and address as specified in #8 below.

    Except for European residents, Choice and its affiliates may occasionally share your personal information for marketing purposes to companies that are business associates, which may include airlines, hotels, retailers, telecommunications companies, credit card companies, banks and financial institutions, affinity membership program operators, restaurants, tradeshow operators, magazines and other publishers, and charitable organizations. For Canadian and Australasian residents, only basic contact information will be disclosed. You may instruct Choice not to share your personal information as specified in #8 below.

    You may withdraw your consent and opt-out of receiving promotions and offers as described in #6 above or having your personal information shared with business associates as described in #7 above by one of the following methods:
