Fayetteville calls itself “America’s Hometown” and you will feel like you are stepping back in history with close proximity to Fort Bragg. When you stay at one of the pet-friendly Fayetteville hotels listed below, you and your canine companion can enjoy everything this southern city has to offer that include:
Check out the Fayetteville Dog Park when you arrive in town. It is clean, fenced-in and has benches for owners to sit on and chat while your canine companion makes new friends.
Your dog will need to stay leashed at Veterans Park where you can pay your respects to those who joined the armed services and fought in conflicts from the Revolutionary War to Afghanistan. There is a very moving curved wall with statuary of a hundred soldiers’ hands held aloft, being sworn into service. You will see columns for every county in North Carolina and each of the five services has its own arch. The park also offers several water features, statues, flowers, with benches scattered along the winding pathways. In the Visitors’ there is a chandelier made from the dog tags of North Carolinians who lost their lives in battle.
Veterans Park is situated alongside the downtown historic district, and you will enjoy this look at some of the most beautiful preserved architecture from Fayetteville’s past. There are customized walking tours available that will happily include your dog and will take you around the Fayetteville Light Infantry Museum and Armory, historic churches, Liberty Point, Cool Springs Tavern and Cross Creek Cemetery.
Considered one of the most underrated attractions in Fayetteville, Lake Rim Park is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with your leashed canine companion. There are plenty of hiking trails around the lake where you can also go boating and fishing. A Native American-themed garden, children’s playgrounds and picnic areas complete the park’s offerings.
The Markethouse is in the center of Fayetteville’s historic district; its history includes use as a slave auction, local market, bank annex, and now a small exhibition hall and community gathering place. There are some engraved stones and historical markers, and on Fourth Fridays the Markethouse presents drum circles, local dancers and more. There is great people and dog-watching here, too.
Stay at one of the pet-friendly hotels in Fayetteville listed below for parks, historic trails, revitalized historic districts and more.
