Room to Rebuild

April 1, 2011 - Indianapolis, IN

On April 1st, 2011, the Choice Hotels’ Global Sales Group and friends volunteered to renovate and rehabilitate the home of Mr. Webb. He has lived in this home for over 50 years, and it is where he and his wife raised their 11 children.

To support his family, Mr. Webb worked as a cook in the Army and then at Western Electric until they closed their Indianapolis facility, at which time he decided to retire. Then, three years ago, after 58 years of marriage, Mr. Webb lost his wife. Now he lives alone on a fixed income and his home has fallen into serious disrepair.

Work accomplished:
  • Replaced window in the back of the house
  • Updated bathroom to ADA accessibility standards
  • Replaced carpet in the front room to help his mobility and improve inside environment
  • Installed one window A/C unit (Mr. Webb’s home did not have central A/C or any window air conditioner units)
  • Washed the outside of the home & painted the trim
  • Installed a wheelchair ramp to the front and back of the home
  • Cleaned and painted the front porch furniture
  • Replaced the mailbox
  • Replaced the front porch light
  • Landscaped
