April 20, 2012 – Washington, DC
In April, Choice associates from the Silver Spring campus joined NFL linebacker, London Fletcher, for a Room to Rebuild project in honor of National Rebuilding Month. Associates provided critical renovations to the Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington, a community center in Washington, D.C. offering services to local homeless and others in need. Samaritan Ministry annually serves 350 clients, and provides them with housing, employment assistance, and a variety of social and professional services. Work completed on this project included interior and exterior painting, installation and repair of windows, landscaping, and interior clean up.
National Rebuilding Month brings national attention to the ongoing struggle low-income homeowners face to remain in homes that are safe, healthy, and warm. The homeowners served by Rebuilding Together are often forced to delay or do without routine home maintenance in order to afford basic necessities such as food and healthcare, putting their home health and personal safety at risk. Every April, 70,000 volunteers come together to help their neighbors, completing nearly 4,000 projects during National Rebuilding Month.
