Room to Rebuild

Tradesperson of the Year – Aug. 10 - Nov. 16, 2010

The Suburban Extended Stay DFW Airport North Hotel of Lewisville, Texas is pleased to announce that it will be hosting Contractor Dan Brown, the winner of Rebuilding Together Tradesperson of the Year, presented by WD-40, award, on his “Big Game” getaway, where he will get the chance to work with other volunteers to help revitalize a local community of low income homeowners in need for the 16th annual Kickoff to Rebuild event where Choice Hotels associates and franchisees will be volunteering.

Announced in August 2010 at Rebuilding Together’s “Fifty for Five” in New Orleans, an event that recognized the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina by restoring 50 hurricane-devastated homes throughout the city, the Tradesperson of the Year award seeks to recognize an individual who gives back to the community and adds value to their skilled trade industry. Dan Brown was chosen after a thorough review process, and more than 12,000 public votes identified eligible skilled tradespersons making an impact in their communities through their work and trades.

Sponsored in part by Choice Hotels International, Inc. and its extended stay brands, MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, the inaugural Tradesperson of the Year program’s winner Dan Brown has spent more than 20 years working as a contractor as well as a community leader. Serving southern New Jersey, Brown has combined his knowledge of trades with helping people in need, working on the board of trustees for the Atlantic City Rescue mission, a nonprofit homeless shelter. Brown not only saved the organization thousands in labor costs for ongoing construction needs but also worked to employ many of the homeless individuals helped by the shelter, giving them a skilled trade for life. Brown is also currently working to help institute a new training program that aims to teach construction trades to homeless inner-city youth.
