The blues were born on Beale Street, the most famous thoroughfare in Memphis. Home to many famous artists, musician W.C. Handy wrote the first blues song here in 1909. The Orpheum Theater has been a landmark in downtown Memphis for nearly a century. Today, it hosts two seasons of Broadway productions each year, as well as a variety of concerts, Ballet Memphis and Opera Memphis. Tours of the Orpheum Theater are available for groups of 20 or more.
