| | Pinellas TrailThe Pinellas Trail is a cycle path that runs from St Pete (it's rarely called St Petersburg) through Largo and Clearwater, north to Honeymoon Island and Tarpon Springs. The trail was a dream born out of tragedy - following the death of a young boy, his father and other bicycle enthusiasts set up a committee that lobbied for a safe place to ride. The first part of the trail opened in 1990, connecting Taylor Park in Largo to Seminole Park in Seminole.
Today the path is 34 miles long and attracts 90,000 cyclists a month, as well as joggers and skaters. It is a safe and pretty place for everyone to ride and explore the locality, monitored by security who see that certain rules are adhered to - helmets, no earphones, alcohol or racing, among other things.
