|  |  Anchorage Fur RendezvousFur Rondy (as Anchorage Fur Rendezvous is known locally) takes over Anchorage with over 120 uniquely Alaskan activities and events that range from serious to outrageous. Highlights include fireworks, The Eskimo Blanket Toss and The World Championship Sled Dog Races.The Anchorage Fur Rendezvous tradition dates back to the early 1900s when trappers and miners emerged from Alaska's wilderness to trade and compete in survival-type games. Prizes were awarded for the longest fox, the best fox and finest ermine pelts.
Other highlights of the ten-day festival include an international dance festival, a polka fest and the Fur Rondy Masque Ball. |
