Battle of Bentonville Reenactment

Return to previous Page ›

Johnston County's Battle of Bentonville Reenactment takes place just once every five years - the next being in 2010 - so you'll be lucky if your visit coincides with this historical extravagance.

Bentonville Battlefield is North Carolina's largest Civil War Battlefield, and the site of the only offensive battle attempting to stop General Sherman's march from Atlanta.

This, the last major battle fought during the Civil War, saw more than 80,000 troops covering 6000 acres of farmland in Eastern North Carolina. There were actually two confrontations involved: the 19 March sees the battle of "Morgan's Stand" while Sunday is "The Fight for Morris Farm". The programme also includes military and civilian encampments and educational exhibitions.
