More than 5000 runners take part in Sacramento's California International Marathon every year. The race begins at the Folsom Dam, passes through outlying communities and finishes at the historic California State Capitol building.
Elite runners compete for a share of the US$50,000 prize fund. The slightly less energetic can take part in a four-person marathon relay, the short maraFUNrun/fitness walk, or join the spectators lining the route to shout encouragement.
