Humpback whales migrate to holiday hotspot Hervey Bay every August and hang around in the coastal waters until October. The area celebrates the arrival of these marine creatures with an annual Whale Festival, bursting with live music, parades and picnics.
If, after seeing your first whale, you can tear yourself away from staring hopefully out to sea, then throw yourself into the other festival activities. The Blessing of the Fleet Carnival, an illuminated Sea Creatures street parade, fireworks display and jazz evening all promise great entertainment on shore as well.
