Las Noches de las Luminarias
Return to previous Page ›
The tradition of lighting Luminarias (candles placed in paper bags weighed down with sand) originated in New Mexico but has travelled further afield. The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix organises a display that creates a charming and atmospheric festive warm-up.
Luminarias are lit to illuminate the path of the baby Jesus to the houses and the gentle lights have become a popular seasonal tradition. This display includes over 7000 lights laid out along the gardens' pathways and visitors can also enjoy entertainment, food and wine, warming cocoa and cider.
