| | Québec Winter CarnivalOne of the largest snow festivals in the world, the Québec Winter Carnival makes the most of the region's harsh climatic conditions. Close to a million visitors enjoy activities and shows in the cold, including costumed balls and parades.Snow sculpture competitions fill the city with madcap scenery, a "snow bath" is created for the truly intrepid and the frozen Saint-Laurent river acts as the venue for dogsled races. Intended primarily as a way to brighten up the bleak days of midwinter, the event has been a highlight on the Quebec City calendar for years. The character of "Bonhomme" acts as the figurehead of the carnival and Quebec goes snow crazy.
If you do decide to take part, pack your warmest clothes: temperatures here average minus 10 degrees Celsius. |
