| | North Carolina Seafood FestivalOne of the largest seafood festivals in the world, the North Carolina Seafood Festival, held annually at Morehead City Waterfront offers boatloads of bounty for the discriminating fish lover.Highlights include the King Neptune Ball and a Softball Tournament. The festival contains an important message as well as a mandate to munch.
The non-profit organisation of citizens and business people - which goes by the same name as the festival itself - sponsors the event with the intention to educate, promote and inform visitors about seafood and the seafood industry. There are multiple interactive exhibits and activities for children, with the aim of fun and education in mind. In an attempt to carry on the North Carolina coastal heritage, traditional artists, craftspeople and musicians perform and sell their wares.
The obvious highlight of the festival is, however, fish. Visitors can load up on everything from raw oysters to shrimp burgers, and even enter a chowder cook-off. There are various stages with free music over the weekend, ranging from traditional sea music to country. Other events include a pageant, a photo contest and an array of sporting events. On Sunday morning, there is a blessing of the fleet that brings the bounty to shore. |
