George Wein's Folk Festival 50

George Wein's Folk Festival 50 celebrates five decades of the best live folk music, with an excellent line-up of international performers at Fort Adams State Park.

Since last year the festival has lost its sponsorship so George Wein, who founded the event in 1959 as the Newport Folk Festival, has taken up the reins once again. An American institution, in the early Sixties the festival defined the burgeoning folk music scene, made Joan Baez a star and hosted Bob Dylan's infamous performance when he went electric.

Over the weekend a broad line-up of pop and folk acts play a set. Pete Seeger, Neko Case, Decemberists, Mavis Staples, Fleet Foxes and Iron & Wine all perform.
