|  |  Canary Islands FestivalFirst held in 1985, the Canary Islands Festival brings the best of classical music to the Canaries, with each concert played both in Las Palmas' Auditorio Alfredo Kraus on Gran Canaria and the Tenerife Auditorium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.First held in 1985 the Canary Islands Festival has become extremely popular with artists and audiences alike. Opening its second quarter-century in 2010, concerts include those by the Dresden Staatskapelle with Zubin Mehta, the Gothenburg Symphony with Gustavo Dudamel, the London Philharmonic with Vladimir Jurowski and the Russian National Orchestra with founder Mikhail Pletnev.
Local orchestras contribute major works. Lü Jia conducts the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra in Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony, while Pedro Halffter conducts the Grand Canaria Philharmonic in Holst's Planets. Full details are on the festival website. |
