The red cliffs of the Park began forming 205 million years ago during the age of the dinosaurs. The early inhabitants of the area, the Anasazi, were a prehistoric farming culture which lived there from 300 to 1200AD. From the 18th century to the present, the region has been sparsely inhabited by the Navajo Indians.
