Forget the Grand Prix, Akron boasts "The Greatest Amateur Youth Racing Event in the World". Every year this derby attracts thousands of young hopefuls and their homemade vehicles to Derby Downs, the 954-foot racing track designed specifically for the competition.
First held in 1934, the derby attracts youngsters from across the globe to compete for college scholarships and coveted trophies. Race Day activities kick off with a spectacular track parade, followed by the traditional Oil Can Trophy Race, where celebrities compete in oversized Derby Cars. The event provides an entertaining programme of fun for spectators, proud parents and car-crazy kids alike.
