The annual Baroque Music Festival, which takes place in the Hospice de Beaune and the Collégiale BasiliqueNotre Dame, draws in discerning music lovers too.Baroque music, which includes the work of Bach, Handel, Scarlatti, Lully and Charpentier, was innovative in its exploration of form within music.
New forms such as the fugue, canon, and chorale were all embraced by these composers to great effect in such works as Handel's Messiah and Bach's series of Fugues for the organ.
Previous highlights have included the dulcet tones of German countertenor Andreas Scholl, Vivaldi's opera La Senna Festeggiante, Monteverdi's 1671 Mass and Handel's oratorio L'Allegro, Il Penseroso ed Il Moderato. |
