With total prize money of US$145,000 up for grabs, it attracts the cream of Aussie surfing.This WQS event has been held at Margaret River's Surfer's Point since 1985 and Mother Nature has thrown up huge mountains of water from the outset. The sea here consistently delivers power and size rarely seen outside of Hawaii, regularly producing waves of over three metres in near-perfect conditions.
The World Qualifying Series (WQS) has about 50 competitions per year. The top WQS surfers strive to make enough championship points to break into the following year's World Championship Tour, but the events are also a great opportunity for local surfers to showcase their skills. |
