Smoky Mountain National Park

Smoky Mountain National Park

Not only are the Smoky Mountains an American National Park, but they have also been made an International Biosphere Reserve (from 1976) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (from 1983). These 800 or so densely forested miles, festooned with waterfalls and straddling the states of North Carolina and Tennessee, are well worth a visit.

The park is renowned throughout the world for the diversity of its fauna and flora and the beauty of its ancient mountains. It was created as a National Park on 15 June 1934.

Winter weather occasionally forces the temporary closure of some park roads, including US-441 over the mountains, so please check if in doubt.

Please visit the park's website for details of camping and lodging.
