| | Hunter ValleyThe Hunter Valley is New South Wales' premier wine-making country, home to the world-renowned Rosemount Estate. Spend a few days stopping off for cellar-door tastings at this and the other 70-odd wineries scattered along the New England Highway. The heart of the Lower Hunter Valley is Pokolbin, where wineries date back to the 1860s, such as Tinklers, whose Volcanic Ash dessert wine is particularly tasty. The Upper Hunter Valley's wineries are far more spread out and visitors are fewer. This means the welcome at the cellar door is often even friendlier. The Pukara Estate up here produces award-winning olive oil. |
