Not only are the Smoky Mountains an American National Park, but they have also been made an International Biosphere Reserve (from 1976) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (from 1983). These 800 or so densely forested miles, festooned with waterfalls and straddling the states of North Carolina and Tennessee, are well worth a visit. |
