Getting There & Getting Around

Bundaberg is on the Isis Highway, about 50km (31 miles) off the Bruce Highway from Gin Gin in the north and 53km (33 miles) off the Bruce Highway from just north of Childers in the south.

QantasLink (tel. 13 13 13 in Australia) flies from Brisbane daily and from Gladstone three times a week.

Queensland Rail (tel. 1300 131 722 in Queensland) trains stop in Bundaberg every day en route between Brisbane and Cairns. The fare is A$65 (US$52/UK£26) from Brisbane in economy class or A$96 (US$77/UK£38) business class on the Tilt Train; fares range from A$179 (US$143/UK£72) for a seat to A$678 (US$542/UK£271) for a sleeping berth in luxury Queenslander Class on the Sunlander from Cairns. The trip takes 4 1/2 hours from Brisbane and 8 1/4 hours from Cairns on the Tilt Train; the Sunlander takes 6 3/4 hours from Brisbane and 25 hours from Cairns.

Greyhound Australia (tel. 13 14 99 in Australia) stops here many times a day on runs between Brisbane and Cairns. The 6 1/2-hour trip from Brisbane costs A$74 (US$59/UK£30). From Cairns it is a 22-hour trip, and the fare is A$200 (US$160/UK£80).

Visitor Information

The Bundaberg City Visitor Information Centre, at 186 Bourbong St., Bundaberg, QLD 4670 (tel. 1800/308 888 in Australia, or 07/4153 8888) is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to noon. Closed public holidays. There is another information center at 271 Bourbong St. (at Mulgrave St.), Bundaberg West.
