Boating Burley Griffin Boat Hire, Barrine Drive, near the ferry terminal, Acton (tel. 02/6249 6861), rents paddle boats for A$20 (US$16/UK£8) per hour and canoes for A$14 (US$11/UK£5.60) per hour. It's open daily. Row 'n' Ride, near the MacDermott Place Boat Ramp, Belconnen (tel. 02/6254 7838), is open on weekends and school and public holidays and offers canoes from A$9 (US$7.20/UK£3.60) per hour, kayaks for A$10 (US$8/UK£4) per hour, and mountain bikes for A$9 (US$7.20/UK£3.60) per hour. Swimming The indoor heated pool at the Australian Institute of Sport (tel. 02/6214 1281), Leverrier Crescent, Bruce, a short drive northwest of Civic, is open to the public at certain times during the day (call ahead to check schedules). Adults pay A$4 (US$3.20/UK£1.60) to swim, and children pay A$2 (US$1.60/UK80p). You must wear swimming caps, which you can buy there for A$2.50 (US$2/UK£1). It costs A$6 (US$4.80/UK£2.40) to use the pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna. Tennis The National Tennis and Squash Centre, Federal Highway, Lyneham (tel. 02/6247 0929), has squash courts available for A$14 to A$18 (US$11-US$14/UK£5.50-UK£7) per hour, depending on when you want to play. Tennis courts can be booked for A$11 to A$17 (US$8.80-US$14/UK£4.40-UK£7). The Australian Institute of Sport also rents courts. |
