Baseball -- The Colorado Rockies (tel. 520/327-9467) pitch spring-training camp in March at Hi Corbett Field, 3400 E. Camino Campestre, in Reid Park (at Randolph Way and E. Broadway). Tickets are $2 to $15. Both the Chicago White Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks have their spring-training camps and exhibition games at Tucson Electric Park, 2500 E. Ajo Way (tel. 866/672-1343 or 520/434-1367), on the south side of the city near the airport. Tickets range from $5 to $16. Tucson Electric Park is also where you can watch the Tucson Sidewinders (tel. 520/434-1021), the AAA affiliate team of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The season runs April through early September; tickets are $6 to $9. Football -- The University of Arizona Wildcats (tel. 800/452-2287 or 520/621-2287), a Pac-10 team, play at UA's Arizona Stadium. Golf Tournaments -- The World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship (tel. 866/942-2672), Tucson's main PGA tournament, is held in late February at The Gallery Golf Club at Dove Mountain. Daily tickets are $30 to $50. Horse/Greyhound Racing -- Rillito Park Race Track, 4502 N. First Ave. (tel. 520/293-5011), the birthplace of both the photo finish and organized quarter-horse and Arabian racing, hosts quarter-horse and thoroughbred racing for one month each winter. The ponies run on weekends from mid-February to early March, and admission is $3 to $5. Greyhounds race year-round at Tucson Greyhound Park, 2601 S. Third Ave. (tel. 520/884-7576). Grandstand admission is $1.25. Races are held Monday through Saturday from 7:40pm. To reach the track, take Exit 261 off I-10. |
