Getting There -- Yuma is on I-8, which runs from San Diego, California, to Casa Grande, Arizona. Amtrak (tel. 800/872-7245) runs passenger service to Yuma on its Sunset Limited route, which runs between Los Angeles and Orlando. The station is at 281 Gila Street.

The Yuma International Airport, 2191 32nd St., is served from Phoenix by US Airways (tel. 800/428-4322) and from Los Angeles by United Express (tel. 800/864-8331).

Visitor Information -- Contact the Yuma Convention and Visitors Bureau, 377 S. Main St. (tel. 800/293-0071 or 928/783-0071). November through April, the visitor center is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm, Saturday from 9am to 4pm, and Sunday from 10am to 1pm. May through October, the visitor center is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 2pm.

Special Events -- The Yuma area is a major producer of lettuce, and celebrates this during Yuma Lettuce Days in late January. Yuma Crossing River Daze, in mid-February, features historical reenactments, tours of historic sites, and an arts-and-crafts festival.
