Getting There -- If you're driving from Ottawa, take the recently completed Route 416 south to 401 and drive west to the Kingston exits. Or with a little more time, take the more scenic Route 2 instead of 401. Route 401 is an expressway that is heavily trafficked and often stressful -- if you're looking for relaxation, avoid it when possible. From Toronto, take 401E to the Kingston exits. Several daily VIA Rail (tel. 888/VIA-RAIL) trains come from Ottawa, Toronto, and Montréal. Voyageur (tel. 613/238-5900) provides bus service from Montréal and Ottawa. Visitor Information -- Stop by the Kingston Tourist Information Office, 209 Ontario St., Kingston, ON K7L 2Z1 (tel. 613/548-4415), in the old railroad station on the waterfront across from City Hall. Its attendants can help you find lodging and sell tickets for the bus tours that start out front. Check out the Tourism Kingston Canada website or the Kingston Ontario website. |
