Getting There

By Car -- I-70 follows the Colorado River through Glenwood Springs. Colo. 82 (the Aspen Hwy.) links the city with Aspen, 42 miles southeast.

By Bus -- Roaring Fork Transportation Agency (tel. 970/925-8484) offers service between Glenwood Springs and Aspen, with numerous stops along the route, daily, at a cost of $6 each way, less for intermediate stops.

By Shuttle Van -- Transportation from Denver to Glenwood Springs is provided by Colorado Mountain Express (tel. 800/525-6363 or 970/926-9800), at about $75 per person one way.

By Train -- There's Amtrak service (tel. 800/USA-RAIL) to Glenwood Springs daily aboard the California Zephyr, direct from Denver and Salt Lake City. The depot is at Seventh Street and Cooper Avenue.

Visitor Information

The Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association, 1102 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 (tel. 970/945-6589), maintains a visitor center on the south side of downtown, on the southeast corner of 11th and Grand. Brochures are available 24 hours a day.

Getting Around

The confluence of the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers forms a T in the heart of Glenwood Springs, and streets follow the valleys carved by the two streams. Downtown Glenwood is south of the Colorado and east of the Roaring Fork.

The city-run bus service, Ride Glenwood Springs (tel. 970/384-6400) operates daily, providing free rides to and from hotels, motels, restaurants, shopping areas, and the Hot Springs Pool. Schedules are available at the Chamber Resort Association office .

Fast Facts

Valley View Hospital, providing 24-hour emergency care, is at 1906 Blake Ave. (tel. 970/945-6535), a block east of Colo. 82 at 19th Street. The post office is at 113 Ninth Street; contact the U.S. Postal Service (tel. 800/275-8777) for hours and additional information.
