Getting There

By Car -- From the north, take routes 113 and 13 to Route 1, and then Route 1A into Rehoboth. From the south, take Route 113 north to Route 26 east to Bethany Beach. From there, take Route 1 north to Rehoboth. From the west, take Route 50 across the Bay Bridge to Route 404 east; then take Route 9 east to Route 1 south. From Ocean City, continue up the Coastal Highway as it turns into Route 1 to Dewey.

By Bus -- Bus service to Rehoboth is no longer available. Greyhound (tel. 800/229-9424) does provide service to Ocean City.

By Plane -- For visitors arriving by plane, the nearest airport is Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport.

Visitor Information

Contact the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, 501 Rehoboth Ave. (tel. 800/441-1329 or 302/227-2233), open year-round Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Gay and lesbian travelers should check out the Camp Rehoboth website.

Getting Around

By Public Transportation -- From Memorial Day to Labor Day, DART First State (tel. 800/553-DART or 302/739-3278) operates daily shuttle service down Route 9 from Georgetown to Lewes, and down Route 1 to Rehoboth and on to the border with Ocean City. Buses go down Savannah Road in Lewes and travel along Rehoboth Avenue to the Rehoboth boardwalk, the Park & Ride Lot, and the shopping outlets. They stop at Ocean City, where passengers can catch the Ocean City bus. A daily pass is $2.10 per person -- or $7 per carload when parking at the Park & Ride Lot on Shuttle Road off Delaware Route 1. Your pass is also good for one ride on Ocean City's bus; likewise, an Ocean City pass is good for one ride in Delaware.

The Jolly Trolley (tel. 302/227-1197) operates a shuttle between Rehoboth Beach and south Dewey Beach. Buses runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, daily every half-hour from 8am to 2am; limited service is available in May and September. The fare is $2 for adults ($3 after midnight), $1 for children under 6. Bus stops are posted. Call for guided tours of Dewey and Rehoboth.

By Car -- Parking in Rehoboth Beach can be difficult. Metered parking is in effect from Memorial Day weekend to mid-September, daily from 10am to midnight. The meters take only quarters. Change machines are located in the first and third blocks of Rehoboth Avenue.

To park in a nonmetered area, you need a parking permit. Permits for daily, weekly, or seasonal parking are available from the Parking Meter Division, 30 1/2 Lake Dr. (behind City Hall), or from real-estate offices and downtown merchants. They cost $30 for a week, $10 for a weekend day, and $5 for a weekday. The police will explain the rules and help you get change. Call tel. 302/227-6181 for information. Once you've parked, leave your car and walk. Almost everything is within a few blocks of the boardwalk and the main street, Rehoboth Avenue.

Special Events

Greyhound lovers converge on Dewey and Rehoboth beaches on Columbus Day weekend for the Greyhound Reach the Beach Weekend. This social gathering was started in 1995 by greyhound lovers who met informally over the Internet. About 3,500 ex-racers and their humans usually take part. It's a lot of fun to see and meet these graceful animals and their gracious owners.

The Sea Witch Halloween Festival and Fiddler's Convention is held at the end of October. This 2-day event features a costume parade, trick-or-treating, a 5K foot race, and, of course, a fiddling contest. For information, contact the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce (tel. 800/441-1329 or 302/227-2233).

The Independent Rehoboth Beach Film Festival (tel. 302/645-9095 or visit their website) takes place the first weekend in November.
