Getting There

By Plane -- Most visitors traveling by air will probably fly into one of the New York City area's three major airports. Other visitors traveling by air will arrive via Albany International Airport, 737 Albany-Shaker Rd. (tel. 518/242-2299), or Stewart International Airport, Route 207, New Windsor (tel. 845/564-2100), near Newburgh, which handles 50 daily flights from major U.S. cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, Raleigh/Durham, and Washington, D.C.

By Car -- Most visitors tour the Catskill Mountain Region by private automobile. The region begins about 90 miles, or about 2 hours, north of New York City; there is easy access via exits 16 through 21B of the New York State Thruway (I-87). From the south, Route I-81 and Route 17 (future I-86) also provide direct access. From New England, I-84 and I-90 connect with Route I-88, I-87, and Route 17 (future I-86).

Major car-rental companies, including Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty, have representatives at all the major airports.

By Train -- Amtrak will get you as close as Poughkeepsie, Schenectady, Albany, or Syracuse. For more information and reservations, contact Amtrak at tel. 800/USA-RAIL.

By Bus -- Greyhound (tel. 518/434-8095) travels to Arkville, Andes, Bearsville, Catskill, Fleischmanns, Hensonville, Highmount, Kerhonkson, Kiamesha, Liberty, Livingston Manor, Monticello, Mountainville, New Paltz, Phoenicia, Rock Hill, Roscoe, Stone Ridge, Tannersville, Windham, and Woodstock. Adirondack Trailways (tel. 800/776-7548) serves the eastern part of the Catskill Region, and Shortline Coach USA (tel. 800/631-8405) the western section (from New York City to Monticello).
