Getting There

By Plane--Knoxville McGhee-Tyson Airport. 2055 Alcoa Highway, Alcoa 37701 (tel. 865/342-3000) is about 45-minutes northeast of Pigeon Forge and ten miles south of downtown Knoxville. Major car-rental companies are housed at ground level on Concourse B, near baggage claim. It's about a forty-minute drive into Pigeon Forge; take Route 321North toward Maryville and then Route 129. It is also accessible via Interstate 40.

If you're not renting, there are a couple of options available, which offer service between the airport and Pigeon Forge area hotels and motels. Rates start at $59.80 per hour, not including gratuity for Chariots of Hire (tel.800/287-5934; 865/522-8108), which provides town car, van, and minibus service between the airport and points throughout Tennessee. Reservations are required. Meet your driver outside the security checkpoint after you deplane.

Taxis are available outside baggage claim; expect the fare to run about $50-$55 into Pigeon Forge.

By Train--There is no train service into Pigeon Forge or Knoxville, the closest metropolitan area.

By Car--The principal highway routes into Pigeon Forge are I-40, I-75 and I-81, connected to Pigeon Forge by State Route 40 from the west (Nashville); I-81 from the east (Roanoke, VA); I-75 from the northwest (Columbus, OH); I-75 from the southeast (Atlanta, GA); and I-59 from the southwest (Birmingham, AL).

Visitor Information

To receive visitor information on Pigeon Forge area before your arrival, contact the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism 2450 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN 37868-1390 (tel. 800/251-9100 or 865/453-8574). Another useful resource is the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development's Travel Planning web site (tel. 615/741-2159). When you arrive, you can receive planning assistance from the staff at the new, large, Pigeon Forge Welcome Center, 1950 Parkway (tel.800/251-9100).

Getting Around

For taxi service, call the Tennessee Taxi Service (tel. 865/919-0728); A-Plus Taxi (tel. 865/970-0016); or Connections Taxi (tel. 865/980-3384). The meter starts at $2 and runs $2 per mile. Additionally, the Pigeon Forge Fun Time Trolley goes up and down the parkway and makes stops at hotels and attractions daily. It's just 25 cents to go anywhere it stops.

Fast Facts

Emergency and urgent-care services are available at five miles away at Ft. Sanders Sevier Medical Center, 709 Middle Creek Rd., Sevierville (tel. 865/429-6100). A CVS Pharmacy (tel. 865/429-6410) is located at 2415 Parkway; a Walgreens (tel.865/428-3659) with a drive-through pharmacy is located at 1840 Parkway. Sales tax is 9.5%; hotel tax is 2.25; amusement tax 2%.
