Located in a gorgeous Victorian house, the Abingdon Visitors Center is on the left as you drive into town on U.S. 58. It's open daily from 9am to 5pm. Stop here to pick up a map and walking tour brochure. Getting There & Getting Around Tri-Cities Regional Airport (tel. 423/325-6000) is about 30 miles southwest of Abingdon between Bristol and Kingsport, Tennessee. You can rent a car there or call Bob's Limo Service (tel. 423/325-6379). Abingdon is at the junction of I-81 and U.S. 11, U.S. 19, and U.S. 58. From I-81, take Exit 17 and follow U.S. 58 West directly into town. U.S. 11 runs east-west along Main Street (which has a phenomenal amount of traffic for such a small town). Both the Greyhound/Trailways bus station (tel. 800/231-2222) and the local taxi depot are at 495 W. Main St. (tel. 276/628-4409). |
