The blues were born on Beale Street, the most famous thoroughfare in Memphis. Home to many famous artists, musician W.C. Handy wrote the first blues song here in 1909. Graceland was Elvis Presley's residence until his death in 1977. The home has been preserved exactly as it was when Elvis was alive, right down to the Jungle Room and the shag carpet. Located in the mighty Mississippi River, Mud Island River Park is home to the Mississippi River Museum where you can learn all about the river's history. The island's outdoor amphitheater hosts musical acts each summer. Mud Island also offers bike, canoe and kayak rentals, as well as gift shops and concession stands.

The National Civil Rights Museum is located at Memphis' Lorraine Motel, the site of Dr. Martin Luther King's 1968 assassination. The museum chronicles milestones and key events from the American civil rights movement through its collections, exhibits and educational programs.

The Orpheum Theater has been a landmark in downtown Memphis for nearly a century. Today, it hosts two seasons of Broadway productions each year, as well as a variety of concerts, Ballet Memphis and Opera Memphis. Tours of the Orpheum Theater are available for groups of 20 or more.

Memphis is also home to the Gibson Guitar Factory, Libertyland Amusement Park, and professional and collegiate sporting events. Plenty of museums, galleries, performing arts facilities and seasonal festivals are waiting for you to explore.
