| Things To Do: Bridgwater Guy Fawkes CarnivalNov 2010 (annual)The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival brings the town to life with a spectacular parade of illuminated floats, live bands, street entertainment and "squibbing"... Unique to Bridgewater, this is the simultaneous firing of lots of large fireworks (squibs) on Bridgwater High Street. The tradition of a winter carnival in Bridgwater dates back more than 100 years and the whole town is involved in lengthy preparations throughout the year in the hope of winning prizes for the best floats in the parade. Close to 100 floats take part.
After the parade, one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the evening is the squibbing display. Squibbers line the street and light their squibs all at the same time. The effect is spectacularly bright light along the road in a long trail of fire. |
