| Things To Do: All Souls ProcessionNov 2010 (annual)Tucson's annual three-day ritual, the All Souls Procession, marks the passing of loved ones and commemoration of those fondly remembered with creativity, celebration and a lot of fire. Based loosely on the Mexican celebration of Dia de los Muertos, All Souls Procession avoids mawkish sentimentality and instead celebrates the lives of those dearly departed in some style. The procession itself sees masked dancers, spectacular floats and bizarre costumed characters process through Tucson, attracting tens of thousands of eager spectators before the burning of a symbolic urn where fire and music fill the air.
Although nominally a three-day-long event encompassing the main parade, a children's parade and other events, mask, float and puppet making workshops are run in preparation around two months before the big weekend. |
