The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is one of the most famous monuments in the world. The enormous carved heads of former US Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln represent the first 150 years of the history of the United States. The monument was finished in 1941 after a 14-year period of sculpting involving over 400 skilled artisans.
