Sweetgrass Basket Cultural Arts Festival

The festival, at Waterfront Memorial Park, features various unique handmade arts and crafts, paintings, live performances and documentaries.
Sweetgrass basket-making is an ancient African tradition brought to America by enslaved Africans more than 300 years ago. The baskets were first used by slaves to store their personal belongings on local plantations. Since then they have been made and sold for fun and to supplement family incomes.
