First held in 1948, the North Carolina Azalea Festival in Wilmington is the city's biggest annual celebration. The blooming of these famous flowers is just the start of a wide-ranging event that bursts into action to celebrate spring!
Set amidst the beautiful azaleas, the North Carolina Azalea Festival also features the traditional crowning of the Queen of the Festival, along with the six beauties in her court and the six cadets appointed as her escort.
North Carolina Azalea Festival also includes a street parade and fair, sporting activities (boxing and triathlon), art shows, a horse show, a circus and, of course, garden tours to see the beautiful blooms.
