Getting There

Both Route 1 (the Trans-Canada Hwy.) and Route 2 pass through or near Charlottetown. Square One Shuttle (tel. 877/675-3830 or 902/436-3830) runs seven-person vans 4 days a week from Moncton and Halifax for C$45 to C$50 (US$36-US$40) one-way. PEI Express Shuttle (tel. 877/877-1771) offers a similar van service from Halifax for almost exactly the same cost.

Visitor Information

The city's main Visitor Information Centre (tel. 902/368-7795) is at 178 Water St. (across from 169 Water St. and next to Confederation Landing Park). Look for the brown "?" sign to direct you to a brick building with helpful staffers, an interactive computer kiosk, and an ample supply of brochures. There's also a vacancy board to let you know where rooms are currently available. The center is open daily in July and August from 8am to 10pm; weekdays only in the off season from 8am to 5pm. There's a second information center at City Hall on Queen Street (tel. 902/566-5548) that's open daily in summer from 8am to 5pm; in the off season, weekdays only, 8:30am to 5pm.
