Named for the local Catholic parish’s patron saint, Jesuit Robert Bellarmine, St. Robert is now the gateway to nearby United States Army Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Fort Leonard Wood. Book with Choice Hotels for the perfect setup to explore the city’s attractions, which include:
The rules at Pinky’s Champagne Room, laid down by Pinky herself, are simple: no discussing politics, religion or gun control. The drinks are good and the atmosphere is better: there is a true welcoming small-town feel to the bar, and excellent cigars are for sale in the two special smoking rooms. The music is oldies-styled and is never overpowering.
With an army establishment nearby it is not altogether surprising to find that there is a military tank to see in St. Robert. Located in Reed Park, the tank is well restored and provides a great photo opportunity.
Open weekdays only (because of its location in the St. Robert Municipal Center), the St. Robert City Museum is worth a brief visit to see a collection of old photos and law enforcement and fire department memorabilia. You'll learn about the old racetrack and view videos of the oral histories recounted by various residents remembering events in the city's past.
It is probably time by now for a little exercise, so head over to the St. Robert Golf Course, the only course in the Midwest with synthetic greens. The par-three course has nine holes and is open to the public year-round.
Your children will probably be more interested in the St. Robert Skate Park, located near the community center, which will give them hours of fun while you are off golfing.
If you would like to cool off and play in the water for a day, then the Tiger Typhoon Aquatic Center is for you. It features an indoor therapy pool, a zero depth splash area, a water play structure, slides, water basketball and volleyball games, lap lanes, a current channel and a rock-climbing wall.
The St. Robert, MO hotels below all give you a great place to headquarter yourself if you are visiting anyone at the nearby army base, and there is plenty to do in town as well. It is unusual to explore a place with such a brief history—it was founded in 1951—and St. Robert will give you a sense of what truly modern city planning is all about.
