The Tucson Community Historic District—where the convention center is located—is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Designed by world-renowned Modernist landscape architect Garrett Eckbo, the district is one of only four large urban landscape designs completed during Eckbo’s storied career.
The Tucson Arena, which holds more than 7,000 people, is best-known for serving as home to the University of Arizona Wildcats club hockey team. As a Division I member of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, the team won 21 straight national tournaments and one national championship over the past three decades. In 2016, the Arena began hosting home games for the city’s minor league hockey team. The venue has hosted a wide variety of events, from monster truck shows to concerts ranging from Elvis to Twenty One Pilots, to WWE live TV broadcasts. Also at the center is the 2,289-seat Tucson Music Hall—which is used for performances by the Arizona Opera, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Broadway productions and famous comedians. It also houses the 511-seat Leo Rich Theatre, which hosts smaller-scale and more intimate performances by the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music (AFCM) and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Every year, the AFCM presents the Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival, a week-long celebration of chamber music that includes concerts, open rehearsals, master classes and a gala dinner.
