The Moscone Center features more than 700,000 square feet of exhibit space with up to 106 meeting rooms. It consists of three main halls—Moscone North and Moscone South, both underneath Yerba Buena Gardens, and the three-level Moscone West exhibition hall across the street. In 2004, a 60,000-square-foot solar electricity array was installed on the roof of the center as part of the city’s plan to get its municipal energy from pollution-free sources; it’s one of the largest city-owned solar installations in the country.
Built over the corner of the underground Moscone North hall, the Metreon is a four-story shopping center that features a Target store, a food court, unique restaurants, and the AMC Loews Metreon 16, an IMAX 3D movie theater.
Also next to the Moscone Center are the Yerba Buena Gardens, which include a wide variety of attractions. Visitors can get moving at the ice skating rink and bowling alley, or take a ride on the restored 1905 carousel. There’s also the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, displaying contemporary art exhibits, and the Children’s Creativity Museum—also known as the Zeum—which focuses on media and technology. The Gardens also house several restaurants and a snack shop.
