Explore Prince Edward Island

It may be the smallest provincial capital in Canada, but Charlottetown has heart that few other cities in the country can match. And there’s plenty to uncover when you look at the many Charlottetown attractions. Take part in walking tours and discover the beauty of Charlottetown’s waterfront, including the remains of Fort Edward at Battery Park before you enjoy the tourist hotspot of Peake’s Wharf. Visit the many historical sites in the city, including the grand St. Dustan’s Basilica, the Victorian-era Beaconsfield Historic House, or the Province House National Historic Site. And when you want to take a break, there’s no better place to rest than Victoria Row, home to many stores and restaurants, including the famous Anne of Green Gables shop.

Famously inspired by the town of Cavendish, no trip to Prince Edward Island would be complete without taking part in an Anne of Green Gables tour. The best place to go is Prince Edward Island National Park, which contains the Green Gables Heritage Place at its center. The real-life inspiration for the Cuthbert farm, the Green Gables House, has been perfectly preserved, and you can engage in guided or self-walking tours through other locations from the novel including Lovers Lane and The Haunted Woods.

 

From red sandstone cliffs to towering lighthouses, Prince Edward Island is surrounded by pristine beaches and parks that are the perfect place to relax. After all, there’s no better place to relax than on a beach. And there is plenty to choose from. Singing Sands Beach is often regarded as one of the best beaches in Canada, and it’s easy to see why. The beach has some of the warmest waters in Canada and is named for the sounds the sand makes when you step on it. Cavendish Beach, located right by PEI National Park, has the province’s famous red sand mixed with white sand beaches for kilometers on end, and is a great place to camp for those who think that one day isn’t enough to enjoy nature.
