AN INNOVATIVE STADIUM IN A GREAT LOCATION
CenturyLink Field has been the first of its kind to include innovative features. In 2002, it became the first NFL stadium to install a FieldTurf artificial playing surface; in 2016, a new version called FieldTurf Revolution 360 was installed. The stadium’s tower features a vertically-oriented scoreboard, also the first of its kind in the NFL. The field-level luxury suites—located directly behind the north end zone—are also a first for the NFL.
While the Seahawks are the most well-known tenant of the stadium, the first sporting event it held was a Seattle Sounders match in the United Soccer League. Since 2009, the Sounders have competed in MLS with CenturyLink Field as its home. The stadium has also hosted college and high school football games, Supercross races, and concerts by The Rolling Stones, U2, Metallica and Taylor Swift.
CenturyLink Field is easily accessible and is bordered by the Pioneer Square, International District, and Industrial District neighborhoods of Seattle. Pioneer Square is known as the center of Seattle’s nightlife and is home to art galleries, cafes, sports bars, bookstores and more. The Chinatown-International District brings together Seattle’s Chinatown, Japantown, and Little Saigon, and tourists flock to the district for its Asian businesses and landmarks. Both CenturyLink Field and Safeco Field—home of MLB’s Seattle Mariners—are located in the “SoDo” (South of Downtown) area of the Industrial District, which is also home to Starbucks’ world headquarters.
