AN AMAZING AUSTRALIAN AIRPORT
The first Adelaide airport was actually an aerodrome, built in 1921. Today, it’s an international airport that serves as a hub for five airlines. In 2013, it became the first Australian airport—and the second airport in the world—to implement Google Street View technology, enabling passengers to explore the arrival and departure areas of the airport before they travel.
There’s everything from shopping to local exhibits to musical performances—and even a bit of aviation history as well. Located next to the airport is the Harbour Town shopping center which features dozens of name-brand discount outlets to browse. Inside the airport itself, entries from The Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture Awards were recently on display. Through a partnership with Music SA (“Music South Australia”), the airport presents “Music at the Airport” on weekends, with performances by the talented musicians of South Australia. For history buffs, the airport has a special building which houses a Vickers Vimy airplane, famous for flying all the way from England to Australia—in 28 days—back in 1919.
With all of these things to see and do, you’ll definitely need to find comfortable accommodations near the Adelaide Airport.
