WHERE HISTORY AND NATURE COME TOGETHER
Gresham hotels are convenient to the historic downtown area, with more than 150 local shops, eateries and service businesses. The public plaza often hosts community festivals and events, and downtown is the perfect place for a relaxing stroll thanks to its tree-lined streets, wide sidewalks and colorful flower baskets.
History buffs have plenty of sights to see, including: the Louise Albertina Kerr Home, formerly a hospital and residence hall which is located in west Gresham and is now a social services facility; the Jacob Zimmerman House, a farmhouse built by German-American settlers in 1874, home to thousands of artifacts from Gresham’s pioneer days; the Emanuel and Christina Anderson House and William Gedamke House, both Victorian Queen Anne homes built around 1900; the Charles and Fae Olson House, a modernist home constructed in 1946; and many other landmarks. The Gresham Historical Society runs the Gresham History Museum in the former Gresham Branch Public Library downtown, which was established in 1913 thanks to a grant from the Andrew Carnegie library fund.
Gresham’s expansive parks system includes more than 300 acres of park land, 840 acres of natural areas and eight miles of trails. In addition to Main City Park near downtown Gresham, visitors head to Oxbow Regional Park, the Gresham Japanese Garden, and the Mt. Hood Community College Planetarium. For those seeking fresh, local produce and other products, there are three farmers’ markets to choose from: Gresham Farmers’ Market, Gresham Saturday Market, and Rockwood Farmers Market.
