No visit to Florence is complete without shopping, and the Palmetto Peddlers Antiques Mall is the perfect spot for it. The shopping complex houses booths offering many collector's items, from high-end, hard-to-find luxury pieces to things for those on a smaller budget. Located inside a refurbished factory, the mall sells China, antique furniture and jewelry, tin toys, old records, advertising signs, memorabilia and more.
If you are looking for a historical sight, the Florence Veterans Park—located near the Civic Center in the center of town— is a good place to stop. The park's Wall of Honor list the names of local veterans, while the POW flag is a reminder of those Armed Forced members who suffered at the hands of the enemy. Head here for a quick picnic or just to enjoy the well-manicured gardens. Another great historical stop is the War Between the States Museum, where you can see items once used in the Florence Stockade prison camp, as well as many military artifacts and photographs.
You can complete your historical tour of Florence with a stop at the Florence National Cemetery, where veterans of five different wars, including the Civil War, are buried. For some active fun, head to The Traces Golf Club. Here, you can try one of the three nine-hole courses as well as great green areas for practice. The club also offers a nice restaurant with great views of the green. One stop you should definitely see is the Columns Plantation. The mid 19th-century mansion is a former cotton and tobacco plantation now registered with the National Register of Historical Places. You can also attend historical reenactments throughout the year.
