The Atmosphere in Dresden
Dresden stands tall on the banks of the river Elbe, which is really where most of the summer fun takes place. There’s something majestic about being by the water when the weather is warm, and the striking city backdrop is the perfect accompaniment. Join locals and tourists alike basking in the heat on the riverside – grab a takeaway from one of the many restaurants nearby and enjoy a picnic on the water or, if you prefer more action, cycle the length of the Elbe. The Charm in Hamburg
Germany is full of storybook cities, but nowhere does it quite like Hamburg. Located in the north of the country, it’s the perfect getaway all year round, but summertime boasts beautifully long days where the sun rises before 5 a.m. and doesn’t set until 10 p.m. at the earliest. On warmer days, spend them exploring outdoors – Alster Lake is the perfect place for some watersports, enjoy one of the many beaches, visit Ohlsdorf, the biggest rural cemetery and park in the world, or have a wander around the Speicherstadt neighbourhood. This southern German city truly comes to life in the summer months and isn’t too hot, so you can walk or cycle around the best bits it has to offer. Palaces, museums, open-air markets, churches, parks, gardens… the list of cultural gems that can be found here is truly endless. The beer gardens are a huge draw here in the summer, too. Sit under the shade of chestnut trees and enjoy a cool brewski – Seehaus Garden and the Michaeligarten are ideal options if you want to admire views of the water while you drink.

The Culture in Berlin
Edge, excitement, and endless activities are what the German capital has to offer. Even if a city break isn’t on your radar this summer, Berlin must be the one exception, as it truly has something for everyone. Learning the history of Berlin will happen without you even trying, from the majestic Brandenburg Gate in the heart of the metropolis to the photo opportunities with soldiers at Checkpoint Charlie.
