Inside the lusciously green walls have witnessed a lot of history connected to the “Renfro Valley Gatherin'.” More than a radio show, this broadcast is a tradition that was started back in 1939 by John Lair and has become the third oldest continually broadcast radio program in America (and the second-longest such program featuring country music just behind the Grand Ole Opry which started in 1925). The original concept of the show was to recreate the atmosphere of the pioneer "gatherin's" which were held in Renfro Valley "in the days of long ago."Great classic country, southern gospel and mountain bluegrass music rings from the rafters of the complex’s two unique show theaters March through December of each year. Ten live shows are presented here every week.Loretta Lynn, Ronnie Milsap, Gatlins, Earl Thomas Conley, Marty Stuart, Joe Diffie, Gene Watson, Don Williams, Sawyer Brown, Ricky Scaggs, Rhonda Vincent and Travis Tritt are some of the headliners who have appeared here. The surrounding village has many antiques shops, artifacts and exhibits to spend your vacation dollars on, plus the historic Lodge Restaurant which is included on select show packages. After a day of sampling some of the best country music in the Bluegrass State, it’s nice to know you can return to Choice Hotels near Renfro Valley Entertainment Center and get that down home feeling with courteous staff and welcome amenities.
